The past 5 days of BC Bike Race have been unreal. Sunny, great trails, and ripping competition. Our 29’r Kona Hei Hei Dualies are eating up the singletrack. Wicks and Sneddon are demolishing the team division and sitting 3rd overall. I’ve had 5 solid rides, and am sitting 5th overall, 4th in the solo division. The next two days are going to be a solid battle with Neal Kindree for the final podium spot as he sits approximately 5-6 minutes ahead.
Overall BC Bike Race is creating a wicked “Bike holiday” for its competitors. The average day goes something like this:
Wake up- breakfast- race for 2-3 hrs – post race – eat – relax by the ocean – wander around the local town – relax – catch a ferry to the next venue – eat – sleep – repeat.
For anyone who has never been to BC’s west coast I can’t think of a better way of getting to see the area. From riding great trails, to checking out small towns, the 4 ferry rides etc… its pretty amazing. We, who live out here are spoiled.
Tommorow is going to be a solid day as we will ride 50 km of trails in Squamish, one of the best pure xc riding areas in Canada. Battling with Kindree, a Squamish local, is going to be a challange. Go go gadget legs..??
The two Europeans (Thomas Dietch & Marzio Deho) who have come out for the race have had a tough go of it on there Carbon hardtails and are both a ways back in GC after mechanicals and other mishaps… They are also the two strongest guys in the race and are still ripping our legs apart on the climbs and open sections. Thankfully the west coast singletrack is taking its toll on the duo.
Back to hibernation as the legs and mind need some solid r&r!
